Trojans rip Mustangs, 10-0 - CIF Sac-Joaquin

If Oak Ridge plays like they did Tuesday the Northern California Regional Division I Softball Championship will be theirs to lose. Playing against the Capuchino Mustangs, the Trojans came out on fire, scoring nine runs on nine hits in the first two innings on its way to a 10-0 win in 4 ½ innings. Pitcher Ellison Schroeder allowed only two hits, while her teammates had 10 hits in the game. In the first inning, Carly Short singled and scored on Brooklyn Paratore’s double. Carmen Montes de Oca followed with a single and an error on a ball hit by Emery Glaser scored the third run. After two outs, Arissa Jerrett singled in another run to put the Trojans up 4-0. They weren’t done. In the second inning the team put up five more runs. Molly Railey and Short led off with singles before Paratore ripped a two-run triple off the fence in center field to score two runs. After Montes de Oca walked, Glaser doubled in the seventh run. Two batters later, Aly Watson’s single made the score 9-0. “We were thinking ‘get ahead early and don’t stop,’” Short said. “We can’t be content with one or two runs. That’s never enough. We just have to keep going and not stop. We’re just trying to carry that energy and not be satisfied. We’ve got to keep attacking.” Paratore and Glaser each hit doubles and triples for the Trojans, while Short had two singles. “We wanted to attack early and get on top knowing we have Ellison pitching and she’s a rock on the mound,” Paratore said. “We want to keep pushing. We never want an egg on the scoreboard; we never want zeros. We want to continue putting bats on balls and scoring runs and making Ellison’s life a lot easier.” Oak Ridge score its final run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Glaser hit a two-out triple followed by an RBI single by Gemma Almont. “We came in and took care of business,” Oak Ridge coach Sam Toy said. “They came out there and they knew exactly what needed to be done and they put their heads down and took care of business.” Next up for the Trojans in SFL rival Whitney, who they host on Thursday at 4 p.m. Oak Ridge and Whitney are two of four SFL teams in the Division I bracket along with Del Oro and Rocklin. Del Oro plays St. Francis in the other semifinal, as St. Francis defeated Rocklin, 3-2 on Tuesday. “Four SFL teams in the Division I bracket truly show how good our league is and our competition is,” Paratore said. “With the potential of playing another SFL team for a Nor-Cal championship would be cool. It shows how dominant our league is.” The Trojans are playing their best softball of the year at the right time. “We’re feeling good right now,” Toy said. “Our energy and mindset are great and we’re just trying to roll with it.”
