Lacrosse - CIF Sac-Joaquin

The Bear River High School boys lacrosse team (7-4, 7-4 league) celebrated senior night with a 14-3 win, when they hosted the Nevada Union Miners (9-1, 9-1 league) in a Capital Valley Conference - B League Division 1 matchup on Friday April 17.

The Bruins spread the scoring across multiple players, showcasing depth and teamwork throughout the contest with attackman Mason Block (25) leading the charge early, finding the net and adding an assist to help set the tone.

Moments after Block's goal, teammate Jack Crabb (22) followed with a goal of his own, capitalizing on crisp ball movement to push the lead 2-0.

In total 5 goals were scored in the first 12 minute quarter with Sean Kinney (32) adding two and Jack Stuart (50) adding one of his own.

Nevada Union scored their first goal in the 2nd quarter by sophomore attackman Nathan Williams (21).

Bear River pulled further ahead however, with the help of Winston Immell (1) who scored 1 goal

By the end of the second quarter the Bruins were up 9-1.

Momentum changed in the third quarter when Nevada Union ramped up the physicality with another goal coming from Williams and another from freshman attackman Desi Oakes (22). This pressure kept the Bruins from moving the ball around, throwing Bear River’s rhythm off. The Bruins quickly regained composure and both teams started playing man to man. Nevada Union attempted to settle in defensively, but Bear River’s offense continued to dictate tempo.

Defensively, the Bruins remained composed. Defensemen Corbin Dagan (0), and JJ Nolan (12) anchored the back line, forcing turnovers and limiting Nevada Union’s clean looks at the net. When the Miners did manage shots, goalie Zachary Yenser (10) came up with key saves to preserve the growing 11-3 lead at the end of three quarters.

As the fourth quarter began, Bear River comfortably controlled the game, while defense tightened further, preventing any late surge from Nevada Union.

From start to finish, the Bruins dictated the pace, combining balanced scoring with disciplined defense. Their ability to build momentum each quarter ultimately proved the difference, as Bear River closed out a convincing victory in the cross-town rivalry.

Immel delivered one of the most complete performances of the night, tallying three goals while also dishing out an assist. His ability to create offense both on and off the ball kept Nevada Union’s defense under constant pressure.

Additional support scoring came from several other Bruins, including midfielder Sean Kinney (32) who netted a total of four goals and one assist, and midfielder Jack Stuart (50) who also contributed a pair.

Bear River goalie Zachary Yenser (10) provided stability in the cage throughout the match with timely stops that prevented Nevada Union from mounting a comeback.

“For the last several games, we’ve come out really slow," Eric Crabb head coach for the Bruins said. "I wanted them to not be tentative in the beginning. I wanted them to come out and play to their level, which I know they’re better than the other teams. And they did exactly that. They came out and proved that it’s not a fluke, because a lot of our games were only a couple of points behind or ahead. This time it was definitive."

The win gives the Bruins continued momentum as they prepare to face off against the Oakmont Vikings (10-4, 9-2) in Roseville Tuesday April 21 at 7:15 p.m.

“That’s a big one, because I think they’re in second place," Coach Crabb said of Oakmont, "And we’re in first, and we already lost to them 6-7 in that hard fought game here."
