SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTXL) – The Yuba City Honkers are section champions, and they won a blue banner on Wednesday night in a very unusual way: a walk-off hit-by-pitch.

Max Guth was plunked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th inning, and that drove in the game-winning run in an 8-7 victory over Central Catholic at Sacramento City College.

“Feels amazing, we haven’t done it as a school in a long time and it’s just great to bring it home,” said Guth, a sophomore.

Yuba City, which has now won eleven straight games, trailed Central Catholic 6-1 on Wednesday night before rallying to send the game to extra innings.

“I’m excited for these kids, they’re exuberant. And it’s just very exciting for these guys to win the way they did,” said head coach Maury Castaneda. “What a great team, what a game, I think that’s everything high school baseball is all about.

“We were just fortunate to be on the winning end of that.”
